People are stupid. Given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe
almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they
want to believe it's true, or because they're afraid it might be true. Peoples'
heads are full of knowledge, facts and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet
they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the
difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and
so are all the easier to fool- From the Wizard's First Rule of Terry Goodkind's
Sword of truth.

And these are almost the exact words I used when I advised my friend to stop aiming for that guy's heart. Why? She asked. Because it's no longer there. It's already been taken by someone else, so stop pushing yourself.

Sometimes we just want to believe that those stolen glances…those smiles mean something special, but in reality, they just don’t mean anything… anything special…anything romantic. "Because if they were, he had responded to your letters and he had caught those arrows for you. Obviously, he's not that into you. And I doubt if his brain still has memories of you."

Sad…but true my friend.
