Last Saturday, we were at the NCCC Mall not to shop and buy. But because of the attractive offering from one booth (near KFC and Dunkin Donuts), we ended up purchasing a set of appliances from Hoffman, a supposed-brand made in Germany. The whole set (PHP 69,999/$1590+)includes: induction cooker, alkaline water filter, entertainment set with 3D ready LCD, and stainless steel cookware. Here’s another kicker: Its LCD does not need 3D glasses. I was doubtful about it because I think a technology like this is still being developed.
When we got home, I searched for Hoffman induction cooker. But the official website of that brand does not carry such appliance. When I typed in Hoffman induction cooker using Google search, I was surprised to see a forum about “Hoffman products purportedly a scam.”
It was almost the same strategy they used to “deceive” us. Then, when my brother checked the amplifier, he realized that it was “analog not in digital technology.”
So, we called them up and asked for their explanation. We also verified their service center in DC. Unfortunately, they do not have any. That means, if one of the appliances would break down, we would just dispose them.
Anyway, it will be my brother’s call to file a complaint against them because it was his card we used to purchase those items.
Were we duped? Not sure but I think we were.
